What is Depression?

Depression is a mood disorder that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act.  It is a serious medical illness that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and despair that lasts more than days.  Depression is a very common disorder, and it is estimated that 5% of adults suffer from it globally1.  There are many contributing reason why a person might suffer from depression.  Research suggests that genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors play a role in depression2

Depression can be a very serious health condition, and can cause a person to function poorly at socially, emotionally, and occupationally.  The effects can be long-lasting and prevent a person from living a fulfilled life.

Do I Have Depression?

Depression is one of the most common mental disorders, and can be easily treatable.  A combination of therapy and medication can help lead to recovery.  Many of the symptom of depressions affect how a person thinks and feels, and can include:
