Substance Use/Addiction
Sometimes, when things seem to be too difficult in the outside world, we turn to anything else to numb our inner world. Addiction can take place in many forms, such as alcohol, drugs, gambling, video games, sex, and even food. We engage in our addictions to escape the pain we feel in our mind. Recognizing and confronting addiction and beginning the process of recovery is one of the bravest and most meaningful challenges you can confront. Recovery is often described as a journey and with any journey, there is planning, preparation, roadmaps, signposts, pit stops and roadblocks. Personal recovery, therefore, means discovering meaning and purpose in life whether or not you are experiencing mental ill health.
When the 12 Steps isn't enough...
Individual counseling can serve as an excellent adjunct to addiction treatment and recovery. Having another person in your support network can make all the difference in the world when it comes to recovering from an addiction. While twelve-step programs are a substantial and invaluable source of support, sometimes you need a little something more custom and individualized. Regardless of where you are on your journey, having a counselor who understands your situation and challenges can make the journey a little bit easier.
